The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) iTax site is an online platform that continues to serve Kenyans froll all backgrounds. It basically allows taxpayers to file their various tax returns, pay taxes, and access other tax-related services on the portal. 

If you're new to the iTax site, here's a step-by-step guide on how to use it. The guide will walk you through every step irrespective of whether you are a beginner.

Step 1: Register for iTax

To begin using the site, visit the iTax site. Next, input your KRA pin to continue. Remember KRA pin is a personal number issued by the KRA to taxpayers.  Next, press "login" and set up your password.

If you have forgotten, KRA has an automated system that will email you the link to reset the password in your Gmail inbox.


Step 2: Log In to Your iTax Account

After activating your account, log in to your iTax account using your PIN and password. If you forget your password, click on the "Forgot Password" link and follow the instructions to reset it.


Step 3: File Your Tax Returns

There are different forms of returns that can be filed on the KRA website. To file your tax returns, click on the "Returns" tab on the iTax dashboard and select the type of tax return you want to file. Examples of returns that can be filed include income tax, value-added tax (VAT), and withholding tax. 

Be sure to follow the instructions and fill in the correct information. Important to note, filling in errors can result in fines from the KRA.


Step 4: Pay Your Taxes

After filing your tax returns, you can pay your taxes through the iTax site. Click on the "Payments" tab on the iTax dashboard and select the type of tax you want to pay. Follow the instructions on the screen to enter the amount you want to pay and select a payment method. You can pay using mobile money, bank transfer, or credit/debit card.


Step 5: View Your Tax Compliance Status

Tax compliance status is a way for you and KRA to know if you have been faithfully paying your taxes. To see your compliance status, click on the compliance tab on the dashboard. You will be able to see any tax obligations that you are currently having.

Step 6: Check and Access Other Tax-Related Services

Apart from filing returns, there are also other services provided on the site.  They include, application for a tax clearance certificate, registering for VAT, and updating of taxpayer's details. 

To check these details, click on the relevant tab and follow the provided instructions.
